# Literature Review: AI in Climate Modeling

## Research Context I'm writing a literature review for my thesis on how machine learning is being applied to climate prediction models. I need to synthesize findings from 12 papers I've collected.

## My Thesis Argument Traditional physics-based climate models are computationally expensive and struggle with regional predictions. ML approaches can complement (not replace) these models by: - Downscaling global predictions to local regions - Identifying patterns in historical data - Reducing computational costs by 10-100x

## Key Papers to Synthesize 1. **Reichstein et al. (2019)** — Deep learning for Earth system science 2. **Schneider et al. (2017)** — Climate goals and computing 3. **Watson-Parris (2021)** — ML for climate projection 4. **Rolnick et al. (2022)** — Tackling climate change with ML

## What I Need Generate a literature review section (~500 words) that: - Groups papers by methodology (supervised vs. unsupervised) - Identifies consensus findings across papers - Highlights gaps and contradictions in the literature - Connects findings back to my thesis argument

## Academic Style Requirements - Formal academic tone, third person - Use hedging language ("suggests", "indicates", "may") - In-text citations in APA format - No bullet points in final output — flowing paragraphs only

## Constraints - Do not invent citations or findings - Flag any claims that need verification - Suggest 2-3 additional papers I should consider
