Connect Viewert to Your AI
One address, one approval. Add Viewert to Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or any assistant that supports MCP, check that it works, and fix it if it does not. About three minutes.
https://api.viewert.com/mcpClaude calls this a custom connector. The steps below are the ones Claude's own help page describes; its menus change from time to time, so Anthropic's page has the current names.
Open the connector settings
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
Add Viewert
Choose + Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Viewert, enter https://api.viewert.com/mcp as the server address and choose Continue.
Sign in
Claude shows the sign-in settings it detected. Leave Authentication on Sign in now, choose Continue, then Add. Claude opens Viewert's approval page: check that it lists “Read your Librams”, “Read your Memories” and “Save Memories”, and choose Allow access.
Turn it on in a chat
In a chat (or a chat inside your project), choose + at the lower left, then Connectors, and switch Viewert on. You may need to do this in each new chat.
On a Team or Enterprise plan
An owner adds the connector once: Organization settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Custom, then Web, with the same address. Then each member opens Customize, then Connectors, finds Viewert and chooses Connect.
ChatGPT calls this an app that uses a remote MCP server. Creating your own needs developer mode; OpenAI's page has the current names and says which plans have it. Viewert signs in with OAuth and registers itself, so you never enter a client id or secret.
Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and switch on Developer mode. On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace an admin may have to allow it first.
Create the app
Choose Create app. Name it Viewert, enter https://api.viewert.com/mcp as the server address and choose OAuth as the sign-in. Viewert registers the app itself, so there is no client id or secret to enter.
Approve on Viewert
ChatGPT opens Viewert's approval page: check that it lists “Read your Librams”, “Read your Memories” and “Save Memories”, and choose Allow access.
Use it in a chat
Start a chat in your project, open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and select Viewert.
Check that it can save
Ask: “Save a test memory in Viewert that says this is a test.” ChatGPT may ask you to confirm: that is normal. If it saves, find it under Memories and remove it. If it says it can only read, your plan does not allow write actions from your own app yet: use Claude for this recipe, or a coding tool.
If you have the Viewert command-line tool, one command finds the tools on your computer and connects them with the sign-in you already have. Otherwise Claude Code can add the address directly.
viewert mcp install # finds Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and Codex on this computer
viewert mcp install --read-only # the same, but the AI can read and never change anything
viewert mcp status # which of them are connected
# Claude Code, without the Viewert command-line tool:
claude mcp add --transport http viewert https://api.viewert.com/mcp
# then, inside Claude Code, run /mcp, choose viewert and follow the link to approve itCursor and Windsurf read a JSON file (Cursor: ~/.cursor/mcp.json; Windsurf: ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json). Add the address, then reload the window: the editor opens Viewert's approval page the first time it needs it.
{
"mcpServers": {
"viewert": { "url": "https://api.viewert.com/mcp" }
}
}In VS Code, add the server to the workspace file .vscode/mcp.json (or choose MCP: Add Server from the command palette):
{
"servers": {
"viewert": { "type": "http", "url": "https://api.viewert.com/mcp" }
}
}Anything that speaks MCP over HTTP (the Streamable HTTP transport) and OAuth 2.1 can connect: give it the address above. It finds how to sign in by itself, from these documents. Apps that cannot do OAuth can send an API key from Settings, API Keys as a Bearer token instead; a key acts as you, so keep it out of shared files.

1. What Librams do I have in Viewert?
2. Save a test memory in Viewert that says this is a test.
3. What do you remember about me?The first lists your Librams
That proves the sign-in and the read permission. If you have none yet, it says so.
The second saves a memory
That proves the write permission. The assistant may ask you to confirm: that is normal. It appears in Viewert under Memories, in force already: remove it there when you have seen it.
The third reads memories back
It lists what you have approved. A memory you have not approved yet is not recalled.
The approval page lists these by the names in the left column. An assistant can ask for fewer; for Memories to work it needs these three: Read your Librams, Read your Memories and Save Memories.
- What it lets the assistant do
- List your Librams, read them, search them (and the search and fetch tools ChatGPT looks for)
- What it lets the assistant do
- Read a Vellum in full
- What it lets the assistant do
- Save to a Libram, and save a shortened or combined Vellum once you agree
- What it lets the assistant do
- Recall your memories and look up where one came from
- What it lets the assistant do
- Save memories, replacements and removals. They take effect at once unless you choose to approve an app first
- What it lets the assistant do
- List your Graphs, check a diagram, and save one (always private)
| Permission | What it lets the assistant do |
|---|---|
| Read your Librams | List your Librams, read them, search them (and the search and fetch tools ChatGPT looks for) |
| Read your Vellums | Read a Vellum in full |
| Manage your Librams / Manage your Vellums | Save to a Libram, and save a shortened or combined Vellum once you agree |
| Read your Memories | Recall your memories and look up where one came from |
| Save Memories | Save memories, replacements and removals. They take effect at once unless you choose to approve an app first |
| See your Graphs / Create and change your Graphs | List your Graphs, check a diagram, and save one (always private) |
Find the symptom, try the fix. Most problems are solved by removing the connection in the assistant and adding it again, because that makes the assistant register and ask for permission afresh.
- Why, and what to do
- Creating your own needs developer mode (Settings, Apps, Advanced settings). On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace an admin may have to allow it first. Some plans do not have it yet.
- Why, and what to do
- Check the address exactly: it starts with https:// and ends in /mcp, with nothing after it. Open it in a browser: it should answer that an authorization header is required. If your network blocks api.viewert.com, the assistant cannot reach it either.
- Why, and what to do
- The connection was approved without the memory permissions (an earlier version of Viewert registered some apps with read access only). Remove Viewert in the assistant, add it again, and on the approval page check that it lists Save Memories before you choose Allow access.
- Why, and what to do
- The assistant is holding an old registration. Remove Viewert in the assistant and add it again.
- Why, and what to do
- The approval page needs you signed in to Viewert in the same browser. Sign in at viewert.com first, then add the connection. Pop-up blockers can hide the approval page: allow pop-ups for the assistant.
- Why, and what to do
- Switch it on for the chat (Claude: + then Connectors; ChatGPT: + then Developer mode). Then see Make your AI use Viewert by default: an assistant uses a tool when it is told to, or when the person asks.
- Why, and what to do
- Remove the connection and add it again. A connection renews itself each time it is used; one that sat unused for 30 days, or that you revoked under OAuth Apps & Connections, needs approving again.
- Why, and what to do
- Settings, OAuth Apps & Connections, and revoke the app. It stops at once, and it cannot be undone from the assistant's side.
| What you see | Why, and what to do |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT has no way to create an app | Creating your own needs developer mode (Settings, Apps, Advanced settings). On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace an admin may have to allow it first. Some plans do not have it yet. |
| ChatGPT or Claude says it cannot connect, or the approval page never opens | Check the address exactly: it starts with https:// and ends in /mcp, with nothing after it. Open it in a browser: it should answer that an authorization header is required. If your network blocks api.viewert.com, the assistant cannot reach it either. |
| It connected, but it can only read, or says it is not allowed to save | The connection was approved without the memory permissions (an earlier version of Viewert registered some apps with read access only). Remove Viewert in the assistant, add it again, and on the approval page check that it lists Save Memories before you choose Allow access. |
| The approval page says the app is unknown or the redirect is not registered | The assistant is holding an old registration. Remove Viewert in the assistant and add it again. |
| You are asked to sign in again and again | The approval page needs you signed in to Viewert in the same browser. Sign in at viewert.com first, then add the connection. Pop-up blockers can hide the approval page: allow pop-ups for the assistant. |
| Viewert is connected but the assistant does not use it | Switch it on for the chat (Claude: + then Connectors; ChatGPT: + then Developer mode). Then see Make your AI use Viewert by default: an assistant uses a tool when it is told to, or when the person asks. |
| It worked yesterday and now says the sign-in expired | Remove the connection and add it again. A connection renews itself each time it is used; one that sat unused for 30 days, or that you revoked under OAuth Apps & Connections, needs approving again. |
| You want to take it away | Settings, OAuth Apps & Connections, and revoke the app. It stops at once, and it cannot be undone from the assistant's side. |
Connecting gives the assistant the tools. To have it use them without being asked (recall at the start of a conversation, remember the decisions you make), follow Make your AI use Viewert by default. To start a project with Memories, follow Memories in a project: the recipe. The tools themselves are listed in Connecting AI Clients.
